Saturday June 6th

Today we went to Central Park.. The park was different then I had imagined. As soon as we stepped off of the subway all we could see were trees and limestone. It was beautiful. We walked a while trying to decide which direction was the children’s zoo(the park is 840 acres). A man on a bicycle with a carriage approached us for a ride to the zoo and we hopped on. He explained to us some of the history of the park and showed us where some attractions were that Kendall would enjoy. We walked through the Children’ Zoo where there were monkeys, turtles, birds, a polar bear, penguins and a few other animals. Then we walked on to Tisch’s Children’s Zoo. Here Kendall was able to feed the pigs, goats, and sheep. We walked over to the Victorian Gardens. In the winter this area is Wollerman’s Rink, a place to go iceskating and in the summer it is a carnival. There are carnival rides and shows for children. Kendall rode on the rides for three hours until it began to get dark and had to head back. This was also are first day using the subway in the city and I did not want to be in the subway at night. On the subway to the park there were people in the subway train, walking up and down the isles shouting about needing food and money. There were people who were drunk and at one particular stop a mariachi band jumped on the train and played for one stop while passing a hat around for money.
